Network Security 101: Firewalls, Access Control & More

Your network perimeter is the front door to your business data. A dedicated firewall (hardware or cloud) with intrusion prevention is step one — the default router from your ISP is not a security device.

Beyond the firewall: segment guest WiFi from your internal network, enable WPA3 and disable WPS, change default admin passwords on all switches and access points, and keep firmware updated.

Physical security matters too — lock down the network cabinet, document who has access, and use PoE-managed switches for cameras to keep video feeds isolated on their own VLAN.
